Daily maintenance and inspection tips for motorcycle helmets

Checking the helmet must be something we do regularly to ensure that it is still functioning properly. The following five are some suggestions given by the editor:

1. Visual inspection

It is very important to regularly check whether the helmet is damaged. Whether it is degraded over time or damaged due to other external factors, ensure that everything is working as it should - such as the sunshade mechanism and integrated sunshade.

Also check the inside of the helmet. Remove the lining (of course, if your helmet lining can be removed) and check for any visual damage or discoloration. If there is any damage, it should be time to replace the item. If you have any questions, you can also bring your helmet to the local dealer, who will be happy to provide you with professional advice.

2. Keep it clean

My suggestion is to wipe it clean after each ride. All helmets - whether made of carbon fiber or thermoplastic - can only be cleaned with mild soapy water or approved helmet cleaners. Avoid using water at too high a temperature and do not clean on hard surfaces or floors. If there is some dirt on the surface of the helmet, gently wipe it with a damp tissue. The best tool for cleaning the ventilation opening is a cotton swab.

3. Don't forget your face mask

If you don't care about sun visors being scratched or greasy, they won't be able to perform their job better. Firstly, remove the sun visor and check for any scratches that may scatter light pollution from the car headlights or sunlight.

To clean, please wash both sides with mild soapy water. If your sun visor is equipped with anti fog coatings such as Pinlock from Spartan Carbon or Race-R Pro, don't worry, both can be cleaned with soapy water. Thoroughly rinse in clean water and air dry naturally - this ensures no streaks. If there are any cracks or damages, I suggest you replace them

4. Clean the lining

From a hygiene perspective, it is important to keep the interior of the helmet clean and odorous, as it can protect the lifespan of your lid. You may think that the helmet is worn out from the outside - because this is where all weather and road dirt attacks - but in reality, it is worn out from the inside out because sweat damages the EPS lining from the inside out, so most helmets are worn out rather than worn out.

If your helmet has a movable lining, you can take it out and wash it by hand. Some linings can be machine washed, but I prefer hand washing because I think this is the only way to thoroughly rinse and remove all dirt. Before reinstalling, let the lining dry naturally. For helmets without a movable lining, invert the helmet in the bathtub - wipe it with a towel to avoid damaging the helmet, then rinse it with a showerhead and dry it completely upside down

5. Check if it is suitable

I have talked to many people who actually wear helmets of the wrong size because they believe that the size of helmets is always the same across all models and brands, which is not entirely correct. Whether a motorcycle helmet is suitable for you is very important - not only for rider comfort but also for safety.
